I still have a few straps of differant lengths..I also just picked up a couple of 19 sets..and hardest of all to find a WW2 Canadian made and marked wooden 19 set radio tray with all the hardwear including the strap handles on each end with the wooden grips..I have never seen one of those before..and in near mint shape..contact me at northman@rogers.com and we can work something..
However I will have to ask for payment BEFORE I ship an item out to you...I sent out a few items to some others onlly to find out they cannot pay for sometime..if ever!! Sorry about this..it took me by surprise. DEan |

Chris, I've been looking at my 19 set stuff and can't quite figure it out. I can see how the short strap will hold down the power supply but the holes on the set are made for the strap to pull the other way. My variometer looks like it just attaches to the power supply box.
Do you have any pix of the mounting board? It must be a few inches wider than the set by the looks of things It looks like it will just hook into the one end of the mounts and the spring loaded clips will hold on the other end. It'd be nice to get some measurements for the board. There's a NOS 19 set on ebay now.19 set The first pic I've posted is my stuff and the others are the ebay stuff.

The case for the A/B set is on upside down. The top side should have two plates on it with 6 tapped holes.

I suspect that if the cage is turned 180 degrees, as Jordan suggests, that the bars will more or less fall between the knobs instead of in front of them.

Hi,
Okay.... your set is upside down in the case. (The narrow part of the keyhole slots should be at the bottom, and there are two attachment plates on the top of the case at the left hand side (for various different installations).) Carriers. There are three "standard" varieties from WW2, they were renumbered later. Carrier, Set. No.1 ZA.3102 - welded steel channel for permanent fitting to vehicles. This is the standard AFV/truck/jeep mount and fairly common. The power supply is mounted on the left of the set, and the variometer fitted where suitable (top or side of of the supply unit, or a "through the side/turret roof" mounting for AFVs. Carrier, Set, No.2 ZA.3103 - shorter steel channel mount for set only in limited space situations. The supply unit goes either on its side on top of the set (Universal Carrier) or elsewhere in the vehicle (Sexton SPG, I think). Carrier, Set, No.3 ZA.10315 - wooden board "Truck & Ground Station" mounting for a complete station (Control Unit No.3, Variometer, Supply Unit, and set). Carriers 1&2 are bolted down using the rubber "bridge" shock absorbers, and are permanently fitted to the vehicle. Carrier No.3 clips in to the "Mountings, Carrier" (one at each end) and the screw is tightened to hold the clips in place - the mounting includes the shock absorbers (2 per mount) and is permanently bolted down. I only have Carrier No.1, I'm after No 2 and No.3. Best, Chris. Pics of the end of Carrier No.1 attached (I hope). The steel angle brackets can be removed to replace the straps, and the holes line up with the tapped holes in the set top so they can also be used to fit the supply unit on that if you're using Casrrier No.2. The holes in the end of the channel are for the single bolt on the shock absorber. C1b shows it with the angle plates removed. |

I also found a few unused RED tubes used in the 19 set...a couple are still in their dated WW2 Cardboard boxes. Marked with the C Broad Arrow, both the box and the tubes.
Something else about the straps...a couple of the straps I have are in a black colour they are a pair of the long strap and the short strap..so it looks like they came off the same unit...Anyone ever seen black straps for 19 sets before?? Dean Last edited by Dean (Ajax); 04-04-09 at 02:29. |

I'm getting the mounts I got from Dean figured out now. He sent me these pix of the mounting board so I'll post them for future reference. He's been good to deal with and helpful with the pix too.
This looks like the demountable mounting board.

Yes, that's Carrier No.23 (the renamed No.3). It's got a few bits missing, but nothing that can't be made up with hand tools.
In the photographs, you'r ;ooking at it from the back, so it goes set, supply unit and control box from left to right. The missing parts are two of the steel angle plates at the outer edges of the set and supply unit (the straps go under these), the backing plates for them, so they don't rip the bolts through the wooden baseboard, and the fasteners to hold them together. They can be copied from the pair that are still fitted. The carrier fits into two of the "Carriers, Mounting" brackets that were in the original photographs, using the steel strips at each end of the Carrier No.23. I want one of those carriers, but Canada is a bit far for shipping, I think. Chris. |
