British and South African Army engineers stopping for lunch at a chow wagon during their efforts to clear a way through the rubble of the devastated town of Cassino, site of hard fighting between Allies & Germans and heavy Allied bombardment.

Looks to me as a Sherman sort of undercarriage. look at the 2 flanges of the 3 piece final drive housing.

Like Maurice said, it must be a Sherman of some sort.

Not sure if they are using it to fill a crater or are trying to get it out!
