Perhaps it saved the driver from leaning to one side if he felt the need to pass wind. Therefore forcing it down and to the occupants in the rear so the driver doesn't lose consentration.

Obviously Colin, all your carriers will have that style of seat, by nessessity.
( We could go for days like this!)Barry, can you show us a picture? I dont recall ever seeing one, of that style.

It was for a seat belt. Can't remember the name but it was the same style as used in th aircraft.
It's in Nigels book I think. Sutton harness.
