Contrary to popular opinion (which does not bear repeating in polite company), that's only because no civilised person can understand a thing which comes out of your mob's mouths anyway; saves us a bootload of time trying to smile a lot and pretend we do!

I love the discussion, our Mess Rules would have taken about 25 pages and were dully ignored.

A moot point, really, especially amongst the Australians here, most of whom neither read nor understand the Queen's English anyway. With minor exception, the rest of our lot would be too drunk to comprehend what's going on after 5 pages or so. Why bother? 'We make it up as we go along' seems an appropriate answer under these circumstances.
