In my quest to know all things Engineer I come across many interesting pics. This one has been languishing on my hard drive for some time now and I'd like to identify what is in this pic. It's intriguing on several points and I invite everyone's comments:
First off, It looks like a BRC 40, quite possibly during trials at Camp Holabird or suchlike If you look closely, the rear wheel appears to be spinning which makes me think it may be on some type of treadmill which is propelling the raft. There is a wash emanating from the rear of the raft. I've never seen such a set up. Is anyone familiar with this? The soldier in the back of the Jeep appears to be tending a smoke generator, or is he watching the tires burn off as they spin? The AT gun appears to be attached to the front of the Jeep so as to be able to be fired during the crossing if necessary and then promptly driven off after reaching the far bank. All in all, an interesting pic of a pre-war test of tactics, from which I'm sure they learned to leave river crossings to the Engineers! ![]() ![]()
