It doesn't look like multiple images to me, more like a simple case of solarisation - if you've ever seen some of Man Ray's photographs you'll know what I mean. The dark halo deliniating the effect in the sky is typical of solarisation. Usually it's caused by the fixer not reaching all of the negative. In the case of the Man Ray pics I think it was done by briefly re-exposing the photographic print to light when in the developer before fixing.
