BB7064 retaining ring missing from Transmission?

I am assembling a carrier transmission and note that the manual shows this little retaining clip (BB7064) on the output shaft behind the bearing. My shaft has the cut for the clip, but I cannot locate the clip. I took the transmission apart a while ago. I checked my box of transmission parts at home, and no clips there either, which leads me to ask: Does the carrier even use this clip? It would look to me like the coupling gear would hold the rear bearing in place on the shaft.
