I think the bit that has been left out is the fact that they are part of standard "Quarter Master Corps" inventory. Many things in the USA Military are "standardised" and vehicle electrical items are in that category. As long as all the specifications are the same, then that item has the same part number in all the parts books, be it Indian, Jeep, Dodge, Ben Hur trailer, etc.
The US made Jerry cans have QMC pressed into them. The above applies to the WWII era.
