Ooops...... made a missteak!!!!
I have pictures of a 1940 Chevrolet nose and the "horse collar" does not go above the radiator as I had remembered.
The civilian part was the origin of the cmp radiator support U shape bracket. For CMP purposes it was a regular part that was trimmed to fit the CMP design. The hole in the CMP part is what is left of the hole that allowed electrical cables to gain access to the side mounted headlights on the civilian model. Hoping the pics attached will illustrate the above. Bob
