Several months ago, I reported on a vehicle bought to my attention, via a chance phonecall. I purchased said vehicle back in April last year, and then she sat under a sheet until September, when she was pushed into the garage. Since then, she has gone though a complete strip down and rebuild. The attached pictures show her as she is now, with the engine being fired up for the first time in over 30 years last weekend (16/02/2013). The reason for showing the glovebox area, is that at the time of purchase the body appeared to have no glovebox, making it very early, however, having found the body number, which dates the body to mid Feb 42, and then feeling under the dash the remains of the glovebox could be felt, so a new one has been fabricated and installed. Still have a fair bit to complete her, and it's not been without several set backs ( including a cracked early W1 cylinder head), but eventually, this March 42 MB will be another one saved. Parts have been sourced thoughtout the world, including the Philippines, for the correct pintle hook.
And before anyone asks, she will be marked in British markings (not 101st or 82nd) Regards Keith Last edited by Keith Orpin; 22-02-13 at 22:18. Reason: additional text |
