Well if the plates are identical then it sounds like it was a production expedient to not have two different side panels to try and keep track of during manufacture and assembly. Which leaves another question has anybody else seen a box with this feature?

Keep up the good work, spotting little things like this is what helps the knowledge base that is MLU continue to grow.
