1 - yes, he did not join until March 1917 2 - yes, previous service in the militia - 96th Lake Superior Regiment 3 - Canada did not have a 'Draft' - that's an American term - Archie volunteered 4 - this may be why he didn't sign up until 1917 - at the outbreak of the war, the 96th Lake Superior Regiment (of which Archie was a part) were tasked to guard the grain elevators in Port Arthur and Fort William, which system ran for 20 kilometres along the lakeshore.
