I had no idea that the Hutterite scenes filmed , were actually done on a real Hutterite community farm. I guess that's why such a intense atmosphere comes across the screen.

I just cannot get over the scene where the U-boat officer played by Portman, says to the sailor sharing the room on the Hutterite farm, words to this effect: " You know, you could make yourself into a really good NAZI if you applied yourself to it"

And, the real life near drowning of the actor in the float plane crash scene .

The ham radio scenes playing chess and the Olivier French character from trois-riviers .

The Germans bickering over who joined the 'party' first .
