I don't know about MK1's but the MK2 seats are covered in green Rexine. I had mine covered in quite a good look a like modern vinyl material. I have since found some original front seats and a drivers back. Here are some pictures. The spare drivers back I have is the modern vinyl on an original board (for sale if needed) Ron
