I ran my first carrier for years with no fan shroud, no rad cap either for that matter. Never had a problem.
The carrier system was set up for heavy duty use. There is a wide margin of safety built in for what we use them for, the occasional parade or sunday drive. Kind of funny seeing Big Mike's name still on this board. Haven't heard hide nor hair of him in quite some time.
