Default BoB collection

Yes, that was me - it was a real blast being involved in the project.

The CMP was a 1941 Ford F60L which Tom owned - obviously as you'll see in the movie it has to be hand started and has little in the way of exhaust system.

There is a reproduction of the truck which appeared for the 50th celebrations in Marree in 2004. There is also a C60L cab 13 which was a former fire truck painted with Tom's name on display in Marree - the only connection was it was used during the State's 150th celebrations - it never did the mail run.

Here's the reproduction:

Here's the Last Mail from Birdsville site.

And attached the real truck.

There were three bronze busts unveiled recently - we had a small part in this too.

From the ABC news site:

Trio of busts honour legendary outback mailman

Posted Sun Mar 30, 2008 1:07pm AEDT

Map: Adelaide 5000
The Governor-General has unveiled a bronze bust of the outback mailman Tom Kruse in the Adelaide Hills in South Australia.

For 30 years, Tom Kruse delivered mail to towns and cattle stations along the Birdsville Track, one of the most isolated outback roads in the country.

Three bronze busts have been created to honour the 93-year-old, who is at today's ceremony.

Governor-General Michael Jeffery unveiled the first sculpture at the Birdwood Motor Museum, also home to Mr Kruse's old mail truck.

The two other busts will be displayed at Marree, 685 kilometres north of Adelaide, and Birdsville in the south-west corner of Queensland - the two towns at either end of the 500-kilometre long track.

Thanks Keith
Well deserved too. Nice too see my Tax Dollar being used for something I agree with for a change.
Rich.

Hi Rich

The only use of our tax dollars was to get the Governor General there - and for the ABC to report on it.

The busts were paid for by interested people and organisations.

You can listen to the report by ABC radio here.
