Just click on each Sqn listed. 6 Gp was a Bomber Command Group in WW2 that was predominantly Cdn.

From that site. The first Canadian built Lancaster "Ruhr Express".

And bummer ... I visited that site before, and just did again through
your links hoping to find the WANKY WONDER ... but still no such luck

The Wanky Wonder was a plane a friends Dad flew in WW2 ... he was with
the Snowy Owls and son and Dad were looking for pics

BTW ... the last image you posted shows up as a little box with a red X in it so not viewable FYI

BTW ... I have some CD's sent to me, with tons of pics of planes and other things, including a lot of personal things on the CD (personal and family stuff

) from a WW2 pilot:

Reg Miles:
Flight Engineer, No1SoTT Halton/ MUs/ Snowy Owls, 420 Sqdn RCAF, 6 Group Bomber Command, Tholthorpe, Yorkshire / 511 Transport Command, RAF ... i think he was with the 420/426/432 Squadrons ... have to check to verify if "432" is correct though

If you scroll down to the bottom end of the page there are many links, to photos and other things, in a site that someone else put up about Reg's service. I'm sure that I have all the info and images that are posted, and then some, on the CD's Reg sent me.

Reg gave me his full and complete blessings to use the contents of the CD's in any way I saw fit and encouraged me to do so.

Thanks for that info. Reg sounds like quite the fellow.

I actually just finished an excellent book about the RCAF efforts in the war. If this is the place to do so, I recommend No Prouder Place by David L. Bashow as a fine read indeed, on the Canadians in Bomber Command during WW2.

I did re-check it and a number of other sources (print and online) but had no luck with finding anything on Wanky Wonder. Sorry

I did find a request for info about it on the 50plus Forum tho; someone named yapster was askin'. Wonder if that's anyone we know!!!

Thanks a lot for your efforts to try find out anything about Wanky Wonder. I think it's impossible though as a few people have searched and come up empty regards Stu's old plane. I haven't been in touch with his son for about 4 years now since I moved from Nelson, so don't know how Stu is these days, though I wonder if he has passed away, as he had started having repeated strokes and was not good last I heard

Regards Reg Miles, quite the character and quite a sense of humor

I haven't been in touch with him for years either as his email address no longer works and I don't know his "life" status these days.

no Stu (Carruthers - the pilot. A Stanley White was his navigator.
Stan passed away about 4 years ago I think it was) or Wanky Wonder pics though.

This is a Canadian build Lancaster Mk X, with 419 Squadron, KB 721, VR-B, Baker. The nose art is Linden Rose. I do not know why it is referred to as Linden Rose. Dad flew this aircraft from December 1944-February, 1945. Note that the plane under the bomb-bay doors is NA-P (428 or Ghost Squadron). It is now in the Aviation Museum in Ottawa.

My Father, Flt/Lt. HHM Cave, was the brother of Lt. JRD Cave, with the 23rd Field Regiment, (Self-Propelled).

Great web-site Darrell, thanks for posting a link to it. I thoroughly enjoyed scrolling through the pics and enjoyed seeing a Merlin engined Halifax, POISON from 434 Squadron. Most people think of the Halifax as a purely radial engined aircraft as most were built with the Bristol Hercules engine. Just as most associate the Lancaster with the Merlin V12 engine, a few, about 300 were built with radial engines. Derek.
