Default Close-ups

The bonnet badge reads: BRITISH BEDFORD

The cab fitted on the Maple Leaf was the ugly looking generic GMH built cab, they used these cabs on just about everything commercial they assembled during 1937/38: Oldsmobile - Chevrolet - GMC - Bedford - Maple Leaf

Default 117

The Chevrolet DD V117. It was listed as a 15 cwt in the 126 ledgers, but the load rating on the rear of the ute was: LOAD NOT TO EXCEED 12 cwt.

A couple of questions on DD117.

The Warning on the back of her: LOAD NOT TO EXCEED...?

Can anyone ID the Wireless Set?

LOAD NOT TO EXCEED 12CWT or a bit over a half an imperial ton.

Doh!

Thanks, Ken.

Now that I have looked at the original post for the umpteenth time, I finally see Mike had already covered that tidbit of information. DD 117 certainly got into a lot of photos back then. I wonder whatever happened to her.

Default Wireless

I'm not sure, but the wireless set in 117 was probably designed and built by AWA . I know that AWA had supplied the sets for the LP Armoured cars, so it would seem logical to assume that they supplied other sets to the army during the pre- war era.

Looking at the books, 117 was boarded , or in other words, it went through the disposal process, and it was sold back to GM-H . It would then have been sold through a GM-H dealership, to a civilian user. The chassis and engine numbers are listed . May be worthwhile asking on the 36 - 38 chev ute Facebook group .

1936 Ford tourer with wireless set and antenna. The set may be a W.S. No. 1 ? These sets were supplied from the U.K. The Ford was one of two 1936 tourers issued to the army - M234 and 235

Story: at a Bendigo swap meet years ago, a VMVC member , Colin A, had a 36 Ford tourer on a trailer for sale . Colin told me: he had salvaged the car from the roadside in the early 1970s, it was abandoned, dumped down into a Gully. He was asking $6k ( sold, I believe ). The car was rough but restorable, it was pictured on the cover of Restored Cars magazine.

The twin of 234 was DD 235. Appears that 235 had a different type of wireless set fitted.

Default Gun tractor

Thanks Konstantin

This newspaper article has some details of the Fordson tractor.

Sydney Morning Herald (NSW : 1842 - 1954), Tuesday 6 October 1936, page 7

In the case of the Bedford, the gun was carried on a trailered dolly .

Did the Aust Army also trial a Scammell as reported in a newspaper ?

DD 241 was a Cletrac ? tracked tractor.
