During a recent short stay in Greece, I had the option to either visit the Acropolis in Athens or to drive "off the highway" with one eye left and one right of the road, looking for some old trucks... as you can see on attached photos, the decision how to spent these few hours was made against the Acropolis... and I was very lucky to spot a CMP. Apparently the truck was modified a little.
Maybe somebody more knowledgeable than I am could identify the truck and tell the reasone for the modified engine cover (I di not have the chanve to have a look underneath). |

Hello Kuno,
Always nice to come across a derelict CMP. I had the pleasure to run across one on the isle of Crete some 25 years ago - see http://mapleleafup.net/vehicles/wrecks/wreck_03.html. I understand it still survives as a derelict, so they can last for a long time. The one you spotted has survived as it was used by a farmer after its military service. It must have been retrofitted with another, longer engine - most likely a diesel. Hence the "nose job" conversion. The wheels are not the standard military divided rims, and it has been fitted with more substantial side windows. The cargo box has been lengthened and a pipe framework (likely made from the original "hoop sticks") added to increase the loading capacity. As far as I can tell this was originally a Ford F15A 15-cwt 4x4 truck, judging by the tight radius on the nose cone an the rear view mirror mount (both redlined in the attached photo).
