..... and both are within the Army's official specs, which state '3 to 3 1/2 inches high...'

Interesting, nevertheless. Wonder if they were both applied at the same time, or if each was applied at different times: there seem to be several sets of 'remains' lurking under the cam paint.

Nice find: no doubt about the painted rego number!

Pity we don't know more about its use/history.

Default Carrier Wiring

Hi Euan - here you are. Hopefully the resolution is adequate. This information is on PP80/81 of the Carrier M.G. (Aust) Spare Parts Catalogue and Indentification List (Revised) as notified in G.O's dated 31st August 1943.

Euan,

Looking good. Having a carrier hull so intact to start with must seem like cheating to all the other carrier restorers who have resurrected basket cases over the years.

Default speedo cable

I was wanting to get a new speedo cable made and need the length of an original one, can anyone help?

Vintage wiring was very helpful with supplying the correct type of wire.

Sorry Bab, I was looking for a wiring diagram not an wiring description. If you go back to the first part of my wiring request I had studied the wiring description and had come to the conclusion that all wires are the same colour.

Default more mystery brackets

Found another couple of bracket that has me stumped, located under the front amour and beside the gun port.
What keeps amazing me is the number of difference between LP carriers and manufactures.

Euan, my best guess is for stowing the bren gun bracket.

Default correct!

Colin, that makes sense as the spring clamps clip around lower bracket.
You get an elephant stamp for your effort.

Does anyone have information different to this?
I have now answered my own question, after removing the wiring conduit and remaining wiring I found the wire was of different colours. The rear lights were red and blue wire as per manual.

Default slow but steady

Over the last couple of week with the help of MLU member Cameron Reid we finally welded the patch panel into the side of the carrier.
I have also rebuilt the missing rear bin self and tool rack.
All welding now complete it time to sandblast the hull at last.

Default Welds

Having inspected it myself, Cameron has done an absolutely amazing job with the welds - an artist with a stick welder!

Default tool rack

Now the rear tool rack is in place I just need the centre latch to complete the repair.
The first pic shows the latch I need if anyone has a spare.

It's for the French MG. Ex WWI, NZ bought them and used them in LP2s. I didn't know Aussie had gone down the same track (the make name escapes me)

Take the bolt out, and the bottom part fits the Bren (I think???)

I found a pic today from Cam with this mount present on top of the engine cover, You may need Keith's eye sight to see it.
Still not 100% sure what MG it holds.

Is Hotchkiss the name you're trying to think of Lynn?
The Hotchkiss .303 was used in fairly large numbers in WW1 but seems to be more associated with the Middle East fighting than in Europe where the Lewis and Vickers predominated.
I knew a fellow that had a sidecar mounting for the gun

Default It is the Hotchkiss LMG

They were an option for the LMG in the rear compartment on early LP2.

The Year of the Carrier DVD features an Aussie collector describing the Hotchkiss ammo box he built to fit in the tray on the lower front right side of his LP2 engine cover.
