			Hey All,

I was just wondering if anyone has any experience with the paint colours from Willy's Acres here in Ontario. They describe a paint that they call Lusterless "khaki" olive drab, I was wondering if it is an appropriate colour for a CMP mid-war (i.e. 1943-ish era). They have a picture of a jeep painted in the colour, it's at their webpage at www.willysacres.com and then under the for sale section there is a '42 willys MB that is the colour they have. Just want to know if it's the right colour before I order up any spray cans/gallons of paint. If that isn't the correct colour can anyone suggest any other paints that I can check out local in the area.... Thanks all! Tim |

Tim, I just recently got some WW2 paint as you describe from Willy's with the full intention to paint my cmp that colour. I tried a spot to see how it looks, and as far as I am concerned it is a pretty close match to original paint that I have seen on various NOS parts. I will check my supply to see what the code number is as I know Markus carries various shades and I wouldn't want to steer you wrong. I have used these on my M37 ( the semi-gloss version) and I think that it is a pretty good product overall.

During the 1942-44 period vehicles were painted SCC2 "Service Colour" a.k.a. No.2 Brown. See paint schemes for CMP trucks for more info and links to on-line resources on the subject. Hanno |

As noted, paint on 1942-44 vehicles was brown. Even after that, the olive drab colour was a shade greener and darker than most of the "340...Olive Drab" paint currently available. I also suspect that "Khaki No.2" was in use both during the 1942-44 period (as proved by at least two vehicles dated March 1943 and November 1943) and later in 1944 (as demonstrated on a vehicle dated June 1944). Still better than dark, shiny, NATO-era olive drab.

I don't have any reference parts off of my truck to be able to colour match the proper brown colour but I DID have some parts that were what I would call the "khaki drab" colour that Willy's Acres is offering, thus my question. Realizing that the brown is quite correct I looked for a suitable match but as I haven't found any good colour chips/reference numbers that's why I was asking about the khaki drab.

If anyone knows of a good, semi-local source of the brown colour CMPs were painted I'd love to hear of one! Thanks all! Tim |

Sherwin Williams Paints in Brampton, Ontario have matched both Khaki No.2 and a 'Canadian' olive drab for me. They have the mixes on file. These matches were from the best untouched original samples I could find. They are quite good at mixing the colour in a variety of paint types and manage to get that really nice chalky matt finish...finger prints, oil stains and all. I've never had tham make a batch of brown but have a nice example with which to do it.
