Some Questions

Hey All

I am looking to haul some vehicles, (mostly CCKW's), and need to get as many on the trailer as possible to reduce the cost. I need to know the measurments for the wheelbase, total length, and width of a truck. It would be nice to fit them side by side but I think they might be too long to fit.

I also have to remove the front motor mount from my 216 and found that I need to remove the cam-shaft to get at it, does anyone have photo's or video or at least any idea on how to remove it as I have my motor down to the block but still do not see how to take it out.

two small screws thru holes in cam gear ., cam followers out, remove cam carefully.

The two bolts are hard to spot unless you know they are there here is page out of the 235-261 manual but they are in the same location on the 216. From the internet, the 6x6 WWII CCKW truck is nominally:

Weight 10,100 lbs or 11,949 lbs.
Length 256.3"
Length: 22.72' or 21.35"
Width: 7.33'
Height: 7.21'

There are 2 models. The artillery prime mover is about 18" shorter than the cargo vehicle, and represents about 10% of the overall production.

The quick identification feature is the length of the bed. The 354 with a wheelbase of 145" and a 9' body, and the 353 with a 164" wheelbase and a 12' body.

Thank you for your posts, all very helpful information, my only problem is I am still unable to find those 2 bolts..lol, cal me blind, dumb, whatever but I have looked everywhere and have removed all the bolts I can see but am still unable to get the cam out.

On a side note I have found 3 sets of numbers on the motor, 2 are stamped in and are the same the other looks like it was molded in when the block was created and is different than the others. I assume the stamped ones are the Serial.

Hi Gary

The raised casted numbers are just that ....casting numbers ....not necessarily unique to one engine but a batch or model series.....

The other two are stamped at a later date and are UNIQUE as serial numbers to that block and can be traced to actual assembly date/place if they have a suffix/prefix.

Thanks for that info. Well the fog has lifted and I turned the cam shaft and lo and behold........ the 2 screws I have been searching for. The cam shaft is now out and I have the plate with the mounts removed so I can put it on the engine I got from you Rob (Morrison). Once I get my gasket material for the transfer case I will be able to try a bit of a test drive.
