C8A HUW restoration in England

Al Tooes, a friend of mine in the UK is restoring a HUW back to its former glory. Al bought it in need of restoration but it came with the complete radio set up including a ground station. It has just about every item required to complete the restoration including the jack and the block of wood to stand the jack on.

The HUW is was taken apart, sandblasted, repaired and painted. The running gear was sorted out and a new rear floor fitted, "new" tyres, all the wheel cylinders and the master cylinder were sleeved in stainless steel. The engine has also been re-built.

The colour was matched to a NOS part Al had, I like it very much.

Al sent over a sample, it is a very nice dark, rich chocolaty colour as you can see in the pictures above. But look what happened when I scanned it?!? Never trust pictures. . .

Hanno, Ι don't want to be annoying anyone, but I'd like to know if Al Tooes made a new rear door, from the drawings, from sheer metal.
It seemed to me like that...

Having been keeping a watchfull eye on Allen's restoration the rear and side doors were already re-skinned when he purchased the vehicle. Frames were solid plus the rear door supports an integral map table.

When Allen purchased the vehicle a full set of new manufacture seat cushions came with it. We have been having some communication on this issue as I have never seen this pattern before although he has now found the original submitted as the pattern for their manufacture? It is the standard 'D' shape, common on both Canadian and British seats. It has an opening at the rear with eyelets both sides, obviously for lacing up once the insert is in place. It also has the 5 eyelets on both faces and two sets of hold down straps so it could obviously be reversed, anyone throw any light on this particular pattern?

Ιt's very obvious that the Dutch HUW has the original seat covers.
Or, I might be wrong..

What do you mean regarding the Dutch HUW being correct? The pictures earlier in this thread do not show any seat cushions?

To my eyes the radio operators seat covers of the Dutch HUW and the above seat cover you've posted, look the same..

Ian, I do not support this with confidence and I may be wrong....my HUW do not have any seats at all...so far.

1943 CMP HUW C8A radio truck - this is Al Tooes' truck.

This vehicle is a genuine ground up restoration with all parts blast cleaned that could be done ( i used to own a blast cleaning business )ie.cab,chassis,road springs,wheels,wings etc.etc.The engine was rebuilt using NOS parts where needed with new inlet and exhaust valves and new piston rings ,this work was carried out by R.M.Services in Hampshire.(Check out their web page on Milweb)
All wheel cylinders and master cylinder are stainless sleeved.Shock absorbers were sent for refurbishment to a specialist engineer who fitted new seals etc. Carbereter overhauled using new gasket set.Almost new run flats with new inner tubes. New brake shoes and linings all round with new flexible pipes (3)New water pump and a re-cored radiator. All oil seals changed in transfer / gear box, fresh oil used.Re-furbished clutch pressure plate,re-made lower front cab bulkhead panel and new sliding roof,as is the rear checker plate floor.The truck has been converted to 12v with an ac charging set up,but all parts come with the vehicle to conert back to 6v. Electric fuel pump. All 5 seats have been recovered and all rear doors have been re-skinned by Tony Sudds. There is a working WS19 set with all the ancillary parts including the 32ft.aerial for a ground station.There are many extras with the vehicle which are all Canadian marked even the correct jack with the wooden base block.Four 2gal.petrol cans and 4 1 gal oil cans.I have 2 spare chore horse battery chargers with 2 complete spares boxes.The vehicle is virtually complete with all the equipment it would have been issued with.Needless to say Ihave all the receipts for work that has been carried out,and many original manuals and publications.The main reason i am selling is loss of dry storage,but if it fitted in my garage then i would keep it.

about A. Tooes truck:
