Good morning/evening or hello!
I'm in need of the family brains trust for the correct colour for 1944 stude 6X6 in australia. I asume it was khaki green No3 but please correct me if I'm wrong. Also looking at the chassis on my stude it looks like it was black, so was this the norm. Thanks in advance! Colin. |

Black was the base coat before the olive drab was applied. It would have been painted American olive drab before leaving for overseas shipment. I doubt it was repainted here before the end of 1945, as most were placed in storage at the time.

Another superb looking job Colin. How are you doing the painting?
Full run down please, set up, types of paint etc. I want to start on my little F15 soon. Keen to hear how the pro's do it...

My thoughts would be they where USA green while in Aust. Army till about 1955 when the whole fleet was changed to deep bronze green (gloss with black chassis) and if the Stude was still in service in the 60s it would have changed to ACCO type green. Dave

Hi Tony, if I can find a pro I'll ask them how they do it, but I use a normal spray gun. The paint I use is PROTEC 503 equipment enamel, khaki green No3 its the best paint I have found and very quick drying and about $35 for 4 litres and thinning out around 20-25%. Don't forget a couple of 303 holes for visual effect
![]() Hi Dave, you would be right about the colours. After sanding, you can see the black chassis and original green on the cab but I'm sticking with the good old KG N03. Colin ![]() |

Hi Colin - the Studebaker we had in the Museum in 2003 was painted that American deep bronze green with duck egg blue scripting on the bonnet. I have other restoration images somewhere in my archives. I don't know whether any were repainted to Oz colours as they came onto our scene quite late in the war.

Hi Colin - just found a couple of before images. Looks like an Oz colour, possibly KG3, overpainted the American colour.

Update on the stude!
Tray is ready for a new floor and a nice brand new set of Firestone military NDT tyres straight from the USA. The delivery is excellent. Colin. |
