Was related to me by the perpetrator...
Some years ago a friend of his was commissioned as a Major and they got together for some celebratory drinks. As the major departed, the friend spotted an envelope containing the shoulder stars which had fallen out of the car. Instead of calling to say he had them he concocted a list of charges relating to careless behaviour, and made up an official buff coloured envelope addressed to his Major friend clearly marked on the outside COURT MARTIAL DOCUMENTS ONLY which he sent to the base. The embarrasment was deep but fortunately the two became close mates and I've heard the story from both sides.
