Default Post-war testing at Monegeeta

Here are a couple of shots on the new page of pictures from Darrin Wright taken during Australian trials.

What a fun job!

Keith. What marvellous pictures! Any more Land Rover ones or even Humbers? But any of my particular interest, the Australian Malkara missile & its Hornet launcher FV1620?

Hi Clive

Wonderful, aren't they... so far that's it for the brit vehicles - hopefully Darrin will find some more to send to me.

There are some M113 and a couple of others which I'll post soon.

Keith,

Good collection of shots. The Land Rover is fitted with Cuthbertson track conversion, made in Scotland.

The shot on your website of all the trucks lined up includes a Commer Q4 3 ton 4x4, a Fordson E2 3 ton 4x4, Morris Commercial MRA1 1 ton 4x4, Bedford RL 3 ton 4x4, Austin K9 1 ton 4x4 and K2 4x2. Strangley, most of these trucks are without bodies, perhaps they were loaded with test weights straight onto the chassis?

The Foden alongside an ACCO, would be from a later period, would guess late 70's or early 80's and would think it could be the 6x6 gun tractor.

Richard

And is this a Scammell prime mover?

Keith,

The Scammell is their Contracter model.

Not sure about the APC in front of the M113, not British, I am sure.

I think the APC is Chinese although its exact designation does not pop to mind right now. I think I read somewhere that it was brought back from Vietnam.

Fyll,

I had in my mind it may have been Russian, but you are correct, Chinese, it is a YW531, captured from the North Vietnamese army in 1972 then trialled at Monegeetta. Evidently it was faster than the M113A1 on the road but noiser, inside and out. Weighed 12.6 tonnes with a 320 bhp V8 diesel.

Richard

PS It is on display at Puckapunyal tank museum, that is where I recollect seeing it.
