I have asked this question on other forums with no luck. This is a photo of a wheel used on the L.R.D.G. 15wt pilot cars. ½ ton pickup as I know it. In no photo can I see the cutouts typical on all Ford wheels. This may be do to the bright sun and the shadow it cast. It may also be the wheels were switched out from another British vehicle perhaps in need of a wider rim for the desert tires. Stock wheels would have only been 4 ½” wide. If you think you have spotted a full smooth wheel like this on another British vehicle of the time period 39, 40, 41 please let me know. I’m guessing they are still 16”

The tires look like 900:13 sand tires. There were wheels suitable for 900:13 that used the Ford bolt pattern, the Ford WOA2 was one such vehicle. It looks like something has been added to the wheels on the vehicle in your picture. Field modifications were common to LRDG vehicles.

that would suck as i already have all the tires i need in 16". If you are refering to the center of the wheels i thought they were hub caps cut away as to make a handle in the center to pull off but why have caps, maybe something welded to the rim to aid pulling the wheels of quickly. Someting new for me to thing about.

You would be better off using the 16” tires. The only 13” tires available now are agricultural tires and they are scarce and not road legal. The 5 1/2 bolt pattern was used on Ford pickups into the 1990’s and also by some Dodge pickups and some jeeps. You my be able to find some suitable aftermarket wheels that will look alright and fit your tires.

The tires were 9.00-13 in 13x6 1/2 rims. Factory Ford parts.
