I did try but failed to find an old link to some great technical drawings of the side screens, particularly the canvas. I had printed it out a long time ago but can only find a couple of incomplete pages. I thought it was on Phil Watermans site but can’t find it. Can someone send me in the right direction? Thanks in advance.

Hi Harry,
Attached is a photo I took of an Australian Ford CMP Cab 13 Side screen. Perhaps someone here knows if both Ford and Chevy ones were the same and if the ones on Australian vehicles were locally produced and a different design to the Canadian ones. This design has two flat bar steel frames with the canvas sandwiched between them. I drew up plans of that steel frame about 6 years ago. I can post it here if it helps. I am reasonably sure of the dimensions but at the time of taking them the owner was giving me a bit of a hurry up. I asked if I could borrow it for a week but he wasn't willing to do that. Bet it is still sitting out in the open in central Victoria rotting away. Cheers,

I have a WW2 era GMH side screen . Like you I did some drawings, Keith W had them on his CMP site . The GMH version looks pretty much like your Ford example. Think the forward flap fasteners that are on the w/screen frame are a different style , a GMH / Ford difference. I may have uploaded the drawings to MLU. I believe i purchased the side curtain at the Mike C clearing sale up at Castella ?

Yes, the Ford and Chev curtains are different where the canvas attaches to the windscreen frame. Ford uses Lift the Dot type and Chev uses Turn Button type. See attached examples from a Peter Jackson Catalogue. Have included one of the four drawings of the Ford frame I drew up. Cheers,

Hi Harry
That drawings of the canvas or frames rings a bell, I'll go looking in my old computer and see if can find them. I've still got my original canvas also to look at maybe I can photograph them against a ruled background. Cheers Phil

oldcmp.net was Keith Webb's website - he may still have the files? 195759721_10158055243396024_6806562352670127696_n.jpg

These drawings are of the Australian GMH side curtains though. There are some differences between these and the Canadian ones. (mainly the canvas) Page 1 Page 2 Page 3 I can make some drawings of my frames if no drawings exist of the Canadian versions. Some details seem to be the same though. So these could definitely be used for reference. Last edited by M.Morren; 07-06-21 at 15:13. |
