I understand that 800 CDN2s were built in 67-68. What was the starting and ending serial numbers, were they all in order? Given that the serial number of my 67 CDN2 is 7105 96879 and the CFR is 67-07832. Can it be figure out what number my jeep is in that total 800 built. Thanks

My money says yours is the 133rd Cdn2 if you go by CFRs, and around 37 if you go by the serial numbers.
If you go to Clive's ramtank.ca, he has listed all the CFRs and serial numbers of the M38A1Cdn2 and Cdn3. The Cdn 2s run from CFR 07700 to just under 08500. The serial numbers are in sequence for the most part, but appear to be in batches. Any small gaps in the serial numbers likely reflect disposal of that particular CFR prior to 1977 when the computerized records started. http://ramtank.ca/m38a1%20index.htm The lowest serial number listed in the Cdn2 batch is 96842 and the highest I spotted was 97765, for a difference of 923, so there is some large gaps in there somewhere. From my records, your M38A1CDN2 ECC 121201 was surplused out of CFB Valcartier in Sept 1987.
The CFR list for M38A1CDN2s runs from 07700 to 08499. The serial numbers run in sequence, but only in batches. So your M38A1CDN2 is in a batch from CFR 07795 sn 7105-96842 to CFR 07959 sn 7105-97006. I hope this helps. |

Thanks to both of you for your answers. Ed, in your reply you list my CDN2 as ECC 121201, can you explain what that means, Thanks

121201 is the basic ECC for a Cdn2.

Plus there is a blurring with a code for M151 vehicles in the 1967 data. No 1/4 trucks of any sort delivered in 1968.

Many of the Cdn2 were made in 1968. I suspect the DND used the model or contract year in this case for the Cdn2 CFRs and delivery dates. I am going by recollection here, but will check some of my data plates to confirm.
I recall stripping a frame some 30 years ago and finding the date of Jan 1968 painted on the frame over the black base coat but under the olive green overcoat. |
