Default RCD Staghound near Ottawa

Unexpectedly found the RCD's Staghound at a local garage near Ottawa today (Len Tech, south of Richmond on McBean St) My wife's motorcycle mechanic had worked on the transmission and engines earlier. The vehicle was running for the RCDs parade, but sat unloved since then. So, the RSM authorized its shipping to get some specialist attention chasing electrical faults by guys who weren't being rushed. A Cpl from the historic vehicle troop was watching as the battery chargers topped up.

The exterior is average, the interior is rough. The turret basket was removed for cleanup when they had the turret off. It needs work on the traverse gears so the turret can be rotated. There are lots of little fittings and straps still in place. BUT, apparently when it was getting revived for the parade, the guys weren't too careful with the wiring and it has problems. But the engines run well. It is running on Canadian 5-ton HLVW truck wheels and tires. No idea how the hubs were modified to fit the new lug configuration.

Now, hold you hats fellas. The major benefactor has been a car dealer in Ottawa who donated time, supplies, shops, workers and materials. Edited << The Cpl who was minding the Staghound quoted a price of $100,000 invested in the project so far. YIKES! That is a lot of money, but how many other Stags are runners? And, how trustworthy is information you get from people who have only been told tales? >> Edited

The gentleman who is a car dealer who funded a large part of the project to get it going is generous but a figure of $100,000 is a little over the top if you ask me, I know him and the lad who at the time worked for him and did the work.

It was a very rushed job with the intent to "make it run" not a restoration.

I just want to make that very clear as it could be misunderstood if you read what was originally posted.

There were a lot of problems with the vehicle, which considering from what state it was resurected, is understandable. Too say that they were not too careful implies you or your source was there and saw such acts taking place. This is how b/s legends are started.

Default speak up

The truth will come out regardless of rumours. If you know facts vs heresay, please help.

I will search for the Ottawa Citizen newspaper story that brought the vehicle to public attention.

Saw it yesterday also. Actually, Young_Law caught it out of the corner of his eye as we sped through town.

So Terry, maybe the dollar figure you quoted might be changed so as to scrub that un-confirmed info you posted?

Mine will be fourth.......I just finished the engines and transmissions overhaul and will testing/tuning the engines before installation. Default Overheating Staghound

Hi All,

A couple of months ago I visited the Dutch Cavalry Museum to check the Hydramatic transmissions I had rebuild for their Staghound. On the test drive both engines overheated. They have now found the cause for this. On one engine the thermostat was stuck solid and the other engine had a loose rotor on the water pump. Hopefully everything will now work as it should.

Cheers,
