Good Day Ladies and Gentlemen:
I wish to pass on to you all, best wishes, and I hope you are all enjoying summer and all it has to offer. I have been approached by 2 organizations who would like to have a military vehicle and reinactor presence at their events. The first event is the Windsor International Air Show which is being held 29-30 August. The web site is www.winairshow.com . The second event is being held at the Canadian Transportation and Heritage Village in Essex on the 6th of September. It is the Fall Car show which is very very popular and well attended. This year they wish to include a military presence with hopes of something bigger in the future. This venue is ideal for a military event. With a village and forest area, an open field and the opportunity for a flea market. There are camping facilities, showers, toilets and all the amenities. There is a licensed restaurant and museum. The web site is www.ctmhv.com . The CTMHV is interested in starting an annual event with military vehicles and reinactors as the main focus. This is the first time that I am aware of that an invitation of this sort has been presented by this organization. They have an awesome setup and situation which would be ideal for such an event, but that is in the planning stages for next year based upon the response generated by this email. Both events will be excellent opportunities to display and educate the public. I plan on attending both events and hope you are interested in participating. Naturally there is much last minute planning and although this is what we in the military call a "short fuse" it is hoped that you would be interested in attending with your vehicle(s) and equipment. Mike,
The wife and I took a shunpikers tour of the area down your way, with the intention of seeing this heritage village. We saw too much interesting stuff on our adventure, and got to the facility just as it was closing for the day. It looks to be a splendid facility, and should be a great show venue. We slid up to WAMBO and got rained out - lets hope the weather is nice for the car show with plenty of military vehicles. I saw Albert Heimstra with UC and Bill Anthony with a wrecker and reminded them of the event. When can we drop off the hardware on Saturday, and where do we stay are the next questions ... Stewart

Essex show
Hi Stewart,
I sent an email with B&Bs and Motels in the area for you and Mary to "camp" in. As for Saturday to bring vehicles....absolutely! If you give me a ETA I will be waiting for you on the road. Note: I will be at a secondary entrance, not the main one. It is just down the road from the main entrance. Same goes for anyone else planning on coming down Saturday. Cheers Mike

The CTMHV Show
This last Wednesday afternoon, Sally and I drove down to Windsor to see Myke and Mary in their home bunker. We spent a wonderful evening with them as well as with Geoff Bottoms (of giant HUP fame) and his wife, then the next morning traveled to the Canadian Transportation Museum and Heritage Village site (see http://www.ctmhv.com for reference) where we met with its director, Mickey Moulder, for breakfast then a comprehensive tour of the facilities.
The bottom line is that we WILL be co-hosting a small military vehicle event in conjunction with their old car show, on the aforementioned date of Sunday, 06 September. The CTMHV site is simply amazing! It is one of the best-organised small museum setups I have ever seen, anywhere. Because of the diverse nature of the museum, there is much to attract both wives and children, with both ancient cars and very old historical buildings; there are also licensed dining facilities available, as well as bathrooms with showers. As mentioned, this particular show is primarily for old cars, so there will be hundreds there as well as our small military enclave (about 14 vehicles expected to-date)... it's a start for us. BTW, there is also a swap meet there for the show, so you can buy or sell bits as you wish. Sally and I will be arriving either Friday evening or Saturday morning, and will be camping through the weekend. Mickey has assigned us a laager for our military vehicles in the woods close to the main pavilion, where we will also camp; anyone coming down for the MV part of the show is welcome to join us! Our plan right now is to set up a BBQ for Saturday evening, so please join us if you can! In the meantime, if you'd like to drop off your vehicle on the Saturday, let us know when you're arriving and we'll ensure someone is there to meet you. If you're not planning on staying, some of us will be there overnight as security, so no problem with that. The long range plan (which will be written after this first show), is to set up an annual military-vehicle-only event on the site, co-hosted by both MLU and the CTMHV - I think this will be an ideal venue for southwestern Ontario collectors, attracting both those who never make it to central Ontario (because of distance) as well as drawing from a potentially huge pool of US collectors within range of Detroit. Shortly I shall be posting a map of the site as well as further information on the event itself. Please stay tuned! Even this first small event will be memorable, so come out if you can! I can only reiterate that the CTMHV is an outstanding organisation with a sincere interest in developing a positive relationship with the military vehicle community, which I heartily endorse. The Captain Bellenden Seymour Hutcheson VC Armoury is a shared facility with the Toronto Police Service. The Armoury is considered a "Green Building" in accordance with the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEEDS) Green Building Rating System. The Armoury has earned a Silver rating on account of its geothermal heating and cooling, maximum use of natural light, minimum waste during construction and operation, and use of controlled lighting. The Toronto Scottish Regiment has a history that stretches back to the First World War as the 75th Battalion, Canadian Expeditionary Force, and was reconstituted after the war as The Toronto Scottish Regiment. The regiment deployed to World War Two from Fort York Armoury, with further deployments of soldiers to Cambodia, Sierra Leone, the Golan Heights, Cyprus, the former Yugoslavia and more recently, to Afghanistan. The regiment will continue to deploy to future operations in Canada and abroad from the Captain Bellenden Seymour Hutcheson VC Armoury. Soldiers of The Toronto Scottish Regiment have responded to local emergencies such as the 1997 Manitoba Floods and the 1998 Ice Storm. Fort York Armoury kaput?
With the Tor Scots moving out, does that mean venerable Fork York Armoury is on the chopping block? God knows it has to go because Toronto NEEDS the space for more condos. Besides, there is a .22 rifle range in the basement and that violates Toronto Mayor Miller's gun ban.
