Humber 1-Ton FV1600
I know that cold weather trials in Canada for the Humber 1-Ton FV1600 trucks were carried out in mid 1950s. But did any of these remain in Canada & indeed were any sold to Canada. Does anyone have any photos or any scraps of info please?
Curiously when some Humber trucks were sold to Australia they were designated Commer 1-Ton Truck FV1600.

reports
Hi Clive
I believe that Bovington has both photos and full reports for these trails, including Humber. As I recall there was also a report on C8A in cold weather trials... kind regards nick |

Nick. Hello. I thought I would find you here. The trouble was that even after you told me about the report the cost to copy was about £65 even then.
What I also wondered was whether the Humbers actually came back & whether any Humbers were sold to Canada. Australia bought some, although curiously called Commers, but they were not a great success.

Humbers
Clive,
They may have been formally referred to as Commers here in Australia, but they have always been known as Humbers in service. As you say they were not a great success - a four ton body to carry a one ton payload, no power steering and exceptionally complex engineering with a high maintenance bill. Attached is a photo of one we recovered from a farm just north of Perth |

Jack, I agree to my mind Humbers are Humbers. But I know that there was some debate at the time of launching export models, about what they should they be called Humbers or Commers because some export models from 1954 had a Commer 4.75l engine rather than the RR B60.
There was some debate about this on: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/HUMBER-FV1600/ A fellow countryman of yours sent me the picture of an Australian Humber affirming that it had a RR engine. But to his surprise & mine the chassis plate read: Truck, 1 Ton 4x4 CT. Commer 1601A Chassis No 6310061 Engine No 13658 UK Humber serials were 5 digits & engine nos 4 digits. I would be interested in the serials nos on that one youv'e got. To try & get some idea of how many there may have been. Any chance of a bigger picture?

Just read your thread and saw the chassis details of one her in Australia. Chassis No.6310061 Engine no. 13658.
I have recently purchased its near sister. My id.plate has Truck Commer 4x4CT 1601A Chassis 6310063 Engine No. 13677. So only 2 off. I am in need of a set of hood bows for the back, and also the winch fairleads. Anyone out the who can help?.
