FAT Fast 17 pounder recovery
This all happened pretty quick. Tony and myself took a couple of days away from the golf industry to dig this heavy weight out of the hole! Got it home today after a white knuckle drive in good weather on a quiet Sunday afternoon. This recovery would not have been possible without the loading expertise of Rob Love and Dirk Derin of Prairie Command . Tony and myself would like to thank them and Al at Westborne for all the help. See pics and more to come. Cheers Rob

Some people just have good luck
Hi Rob
Some people just have really good luck in coming on interesting finds, or you have a good intelligence network scouting parts. Either way congratulations on a nice find. Now have you got a lead on a limber? Cheers Phil

Phil,
Knowing that bunch out west they most certainly dont have a lead on a limber but likely have a recovery strop on one as we speak. I think all their chairs are embedded with horseshoes R |

There is supposed to be the remnants of an old 25 pdr limber in the cambrian yard. But by what I have read the limber did not go with the 17 pdr.

Excellent find guys! I am sure it will look excellent behind the FA(S)T.
Attached is a pic taken in Antwerp, Belgium. source: National Archives Canada 40843 I have also seen a number of pics of 17pdr's being towed by Morris Quads, both the beetle back as well as the the later type. Quote:

I read on a site somewhere that the limbers were towed empty just to make use of the braking system. Did the limbers have a surge brake?
Does 17pdr ammo even fit in a 25 pdr limber? |

Late fall finds...
just to let you know that the stuff is still out there. A 17 pdr. round, but still trying to identify the tracer round that was sold to me as such M62A1...NIce to have the shell. A couple of siege lamps today 1943 marked, and some RCAF items, an 1154 radio, and a service dress WAG tunic. Cheers Rob

Surely it is an M62A1 APC projectile? It's for the 76mm M1 gun and the 3" M7 gun as used in Sherman, Hellcat and M10 respectively. I saw that on Facebook and told him I would have jumped at it had it been this side of the world!

Spring clean
Rob,
With the weather picking up over here and the evenings starting to draw out I have been doing some spring cleaning and managed (after two days of moving stuff ) to get the 17 pdr out, this being a good time and rare opportunity to get some up to date pictures. Great pics Rob Nixon...
and I love your super clean shop! Spotted artillery tools on the table and I love to see pics with the ordnance/box's/kit along side the gun. Beautiful! I will have you know, not that I'm counting, but your latest pics/views put this thread over the 15,000 seen mark. A lot of interest in the history of the 17 pdr... Dave, all I can offer on a - 30c cold winter night is a red/green/yellow flare pistol show and a glass of the red nectar. Come on down. Cheers Rob
