Cat D series
I know we have various items on the D series Cats but thought it a good idea to group them in to one thread to make it easier to locate items of interest, so to kick off heres a tractor taken in Italy around November 1943 towing a Athey tracked trailer in turn towing a CMP quad( should this also be in the in the background thread)

Cat D4
Hello Les - nice pic
I have a Caterpillar D4 2T Lend-Lease currently under restoration. I would be very interested in finding out more about the original markings the Cat may have worn while in the service. It would appear to have been used for hauling duties or with a letourneau scraper unit. The whole machine had a coat of dark olive lustreless but so fay no sign of the markings or number has been found. Any pics of Military D4's at work would be welcome Cheers Phill

Great story
That Alcan Hwy story was areal treat.
The stories about the muskeg bogs reminded me of Rottnest Island here in Western Australia. During the war there was a sizeable garrrison of Coastal artillery, Engineers and even an underground Hospital installed on the Island to protect the approaches to Fremantle. During the construction of the roadways across the island it is rumoured that a caterpillar bulldozer sunk in a swamp and was never seen again. To this day there is a prominent feature known even on maps as 'bulldozer swamp'... Makes you wonder ? Cheers Phill
