RobDab: What's the story behind this? I can't imagine the Base Borden Military Museum just giving this vehicle away! Since you once were heavily involved at BBMM, can you sleuth out any back ground info? EDIT!!! See Bruce Parker's post further down. So, is it an M4 Sherman or a Grizzly? A production run of some 400+ sounds like Grizzly to me.

| That's a Grizzly

Hi there The tank is a standard MLW-Built Grizzly that at some time during the war had a Firefly turret mounted. I am told this wasn't just a case of dropping the turret on any old hull, but was actually converted to Firefly standard: re-configured ammo stowage, sealed bow MG position etc. Apparently this was done in case the shortage of Shermans got so bad the Allies would have to scoop up the 188 Grizzlys built but never sent overseas. Hello Hanno, are you there? Steve

The Toronto Star writer got a little carried away... this was an experimental conversion which never made it overseas, but is nonetheless original. And they never had "five engines" (M4A4) or "twin diesels" (M4A2) but an R975 radial, patterned after the American M4A1. At least engines are available. What a good project for the youngsters, though! This'll keep them out of trouble for a while... If Borden's giving stuff away, can we have their late model Ram to convert to a Kangaroo in order to carry veterans on parade? I'll have to get in touch with this chap regards this project of theirs. I'm sure that collectively, we can be of some service.
