Hello dear beloved friends,
On september 7,8,9 - 2007 the Belgian Living History Association will organise for the second time Operation Kick Off. This event is organised in coörporation with the city of Leopoldsburg, the local armymuseum and the Belgian Army. The organisation invites world war 2 vehicle collectors (specially commonwealth vehicles) and re-enactors into the military camp of Beverloo in Leopoldsburg. The Belgian army allows us to use the old part of the military camp that was used in 1944 by the British XXX Corps as a gathering area for the ground troops that had to participate in "Operation Market-Garden". Also VIII Corps and XII Corps used the area for their march to the north. The area still looks the same as in 1944 what makes it ideal for this kind of events. Because it is military domain there is no modern civil influence. The famous briefing of gen. Horrockx for the start of Operation Market-Garden took place in Leopoldsburg approx. half a mile from the campsite. On the program are military vehicle demonstrations, re-enactmentdisplays, mockbattles, militaria fair, fourties music, etc. Participants get the chance to visit the museum for free. Joe's Bridge is only 15 minutes drive away. Nearby town Hechtel was the theatre of fierce fighting between British XXX Corps and German Fallshirmjaëger and was called "Little Caen" by the British. Further information on www.blha.be (website not yet online but soon will be) or info@blha.be Cheers, Dirk |
