Searching through the Alexander Turnbull Library web site , I came across this pic of a F8 with signalers in Libya . The Library is somewhat frustrating to search as they have a weird search system in place .
This pic depicts how inaccurate our pristine looking vehicles appear when on display at shows like Beltring . These guys have everything but the kitchen sink on board . No spit and polish here , just dirt , dust and sweat . To them, our restorations would look fake and artificial in appearance . Mike

Mike when you see photos like this it is easy to image that restored vehicles look fake and unreal. But in reality once off the line these vehicles would have been washed and groomed if not repainted with a brush. Probably before their crews became the same with a bath/shower and clean clothes.
I have to admit though that I know a number of restored vehicles that are, for want of a better word, much, much straighter and polished then they were when new from the factory. This applies both to Military as well as Civilian vehicle restorations. Thanks for sharing the photo though as it is nice to see some new Kiwi stuff. Cheers Cliff ![]() |

I wonder if the stripped thing on the door is an old school scarf.
I agree that this shows what the vehicles really looked like in service. That whole issue of vehicles being restored to better than delivered from the factory became a real issue in the antique military vehicle judging at shows. One of the reasons that the local club I belong to NEVER has judged events too many problems and too much hard feelings.

It's nice to see an artillery board in action.

Another one from the N.Z. Turnbull library .
WOT2 in Italy , the vehicle in the background is a 8cwt truck. The tyre in foreground looks like a 900-13 ? BTW The cab 12 C8 with British Duple body , part of the Ryan collection here in N.S.W. , has just been sold to a QLD buyer. Mike

This is the Barry Ryan C8 , it has just been sold to a QLD buyer .
Barry established his museum up near Shepparton, Victoria , in the mid 1970's , I first saw this truck in Jan . 1977 , it had previously been in a bush fire brigade . He moved up to Dubbo in the 1980's . His other vehicles are currently for sale to locals til this weekend , when its all going on to MILWEB . http://www.milweb.net/arcade/dubbo/index.htm This C8 is most unusual in that its fitted with a British built Duple 8 cwt body . Pretty much the same body as seen on the Morris PU etc. , wooden floor . There is a pic of one in the Gregg profile on 8 cwt's . The fuel tanks have long necks that stick out the ends of the tanks . I have always wondered if these bodies were fitted in the U.K. , or in the M.E. Mike
