Mr Mark Tonner is owed an apology as I see he posted a query of me on this forum but I had not picked it up. For those interested, No. 1 Canadian Equipment Assembly Unit or C.E.A.U. was formed in 1943 and run by the Canadian Royal Ordnance Corps, which in 1944 split and the facility was then run by the Royal Canadian Mechanical and Electrical Engineers at CAMP BORDON in Hampshire.
Camp BordOn was and I suppose the site is, part of the massive conglomeration of military lands off the A3 London-Portsmouth Road, near Aldershot and Longmoor, and I believe was served by the Longmoor Military Railway. The camp was originally a British Army one and then after the Brits left for France, the RCOC moved in. Today there is a line of youngish trees on the left side of the A3, going north just before Hindhead. These were planted a few years back in memory of the Canadian servicemen who were stationed at Bordon and nearby areas. |

David,
Having been to the School of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering (SEME) at Bordon many times, I remember seeing a plaque on one of the original workshop buildings comemerating the Canadian Army there during WW2. Cannot remember details though. Richard |

David,Richard; If I possessed the know-how I would post a scan of the cornerstone of the AFV Training Building at SEME in Bordon. However the inscription is as fol:
This Cornerstone Laid By Gen A.G.L. McNaughton CB,CMG,DSO GOCinC First Canadian Army Built For The Royal Canadian Ordnance Corps By Royal Canadian Engineers MCMXLII to the left lower corner is the badge is the badge of the RCE, and to the right lower corner is the badge of the RCOC. My wifes late uncle was a member of the RCE that built this Bldg and others in Bordon and other camps in the area for the Canadian Army. Cheers, Bill ARTE ET MARTE |

You can always send me an email with the photo and I'll send a copy to my websites [I have several] and then it can be hosted so that it will appear for all to see.
