Default HMAS Sydney I or II or ?

Ya gots ta have a laugh at this news story's end image....

http://www.abc.net.au/news/2015-05-0...y-sank/6438496

The story is about the loss of HMAS Sydney II in 1941, the image is taken from the deck of HMAS Sydney I in 1914 .....

Apparently someone in the news room simply lifted an image from the AWM database without realising there was more than one 'Sydney' (at least they didn't use an image of the aircraft carrier!!)

Default Clarification?

Mike,

I'm pretty sure that it is the WW2 HMAS Sydney in the picture, from the 2 barrels on the main armament.

HMAS Sydney in WW1 only had single guns as main armament.

The regulation of the wearing of shorts? When was that introduced?

Happily stand to be corrected, I might be looking at the wrong image.

Tony,

I agree, but that's not the image they had on that news piece first up this morning, which showed the Emden 'beached and done for' in the background. Apparently, someone realised their error!!

Default Good Grief

Youre not telling me there is an accurate fact checker at the ABC?

Most of them seem to have a recurring inner ear problem.
It symptomatically presents itself as a lean to the left.

Not that Mike needs it, but I will vouch for the change in photo, the lone sailor on the deck in the original pic had a suspiciously early uniform as well.
Happy to see that it was picked up and rectified, all to rare these days.
Rich.

Richard,

Actually, I did have a seniors moment of doubt when I went back and looked at it after Tony's post... so your backing me up is gratefully received , thank you!

Very unusual to see it changed like that, but good that they did.

Default Correction (I also saw it)

They quite probably got bounced by more people than you would imagine.
