can anyone help ID this unit arty 53, this is on my wife's 53 M-38A1cdn, third battery Signal Sgt, vehicle,

Are you asking about a red over blue arm-of-service sign with a white serial '53' on it? Or a '53' on the vehicle somewhere else?

I can't find any reference to an artillery tactical serial of 53, either post-war or Second World War. Are you sure of the serial?
