Foden DG6/12

Hi,

can someone identify the truck with the bailey bridge parts in the back?

I think it could be a Foden DG6/12 but honestly I don't know, what are by the way the other trucks?

I would say it is a Foden. The crane in the foreground is a Thornycroft Amazon /Coles EMA crane and the half cab crane withe left hand drive is a Thew Lorraine I think.

No photos handy at present, but the Canadian vehicle book, "Canada's Fighting Vehicles", shows some with specialist bodies for photo printing, mapmaking, etc.

Photos of the Foden DG/6/12 are quite rare in ww2 army service, i only have a limited number but here are two for your enjoyment

Is the body of the Foden the same as the one used on the Leyland Hippo, I'd like to scratchbuild one but I've only got drawings of the Foden DG4?

I hope this will help, the drawing shows the DG/6/10 truck note the body has no wheel arch. They are very similer but the next phot shows the different fittings, because of the larger tyres on the DG12 the overall height of the vehicle is 10ft 6ins not 10ft 2.5ins as per the drawing

For a comparison heres the Hippo drawing and measurements its longer and wider and has a lot of different fittings, hope this helps

I notice that some time ago there was some info posted about the Foden DG6/12. I am desparatly seeking any photos of this Vehicle as I own what is probably the last existing example of this vehicle which needs quite alot of restoration. The cab and chasis are 95% complete but I need to build a new body. She is even still in her military colours. Any help of any kind would be greatfully recieved. To hell with a PM... here's the drill:

Up near the top of your browser window there's an address bar. It'll show the address of the page you're looking at, in small type, starting with the http, the // after, then the www and so on. OK so far?

With your mouse, highlight the COMPLETE contents of that address bar, then copy it; holding down the Ctrl key and then hitting the letter C on the keyboard will copy.

Next, go over to the MLU window you're replying in, then place the cursor where you want the link, hold down the Ctrl key again, and hit the V key - that will paste the copied link. The software will automatically turn that into a "live" link.

You MUST include the http and everything which follows it for this to work.

Now, give it a shot and see what happens! After you have a handle on that, there's lots more tricks to learn...

Hi there, I would like to thank aj.lec and Geoff Winnington-Ball for there input to my search for info on the Foden DG6/12. Unfortunatly I didn't make myself clear on exactly what it is I need. My Foden is the war time general service varient and was manufactured between 1943 to 45. I am looking for any pictures of this or any other body variants based on the DG6/12 so that I can construct a new body as near to the original as possible. Photos of this lorry in post war service would of course also help if any body has any. Should any body out there know of a serviving example anywhere in the wourld I would love to hear from them.

Louis, make sure you hit the 'post reply' button rather than the 'new thread' button when you want to reply to an existing thread - that keeps it all in one place. Just train yourself to go for the button far right bottom.

(note to self - find the damned button and change its colour!)

To the subject at-hand - has anyone any information which would help Louis in his restoration efforts? Knowing this crowd, surely one of you has tripped over something in past?

Is this recent eBay picture a DG6/12 RE Darkroom body ?



Dated 1945 on the reverse and captioned as an Austin K5 which it clearly isn't.
