I have visited the memorial site and noted that the rail vehicle is a NSW standard gauge 4 wheel "S" truck, the actual truck involved was a south australian railways naroiw gauge 3'6" bogie open .

Hello John, I am not sure whether you are describing the same thing? There was a Battle of Broken Hill on New Year’s Day 1915 http://www.abc.net.au/gnt/history/Tr...s/s1051016.htm Broadcast 6.30pm on 23/02/2004 Some more details about the incident that outlines the picnic train details are found at http://www.postcards-sa.com.au/featu...oken_hill.html Kind Regards Lionel

One of the previous discussions can be found here. The is another, somewhere on this forum, that I have contributed to, as I visited the site with my family a couple of years back. But ut I cannot find it. I'll have another search when my ADSL is back up, using the mobile phone at the moment. H
