Default permits

I've seen WWII Canadian civilian registration cards for firearms. And, I've seen reproduction ads for the Canadian government asking civilians to surrender specific WWI souvenir German handguns.

On Canadian Gun Nutz there is a great thread including scans of a letter asking a lady to surrender her Luger, a reciept for the Luger, then a letter thanking her for the loan of the Luger once it had been used for training and returned to her.
