Recently I met a very skilled gentleman who has the ability to replace and insert valve seats on IOE engines in the chassis.
He was fortunate enough to buy a number of years ago a kit produced by Kwik Way for the US military and never sld on the civilian market. He has an extensive amount of tooling and has a very keen eye for detail. If anyone wants his info email me. He is located in the Muskoka area but will travel. His main work is antique boats and is a real perfectionist. Regards Robin |

Who would you recommend as a "good" machine shop in and around Ottawa that can examine, measure, assess a Chev 6 cyl engine....fully disassembled... to determine if the engine is worthwhile rebuilding.
In the East end, we used to have "Engine Extra" on Star Top road..... Bob the manager had a very good reputation with the Hot Rod community and antique farm tractor collectors.... but like anyone else doing a good job..... they went belly up..... Do we have any one else that can machine engine parts..... for low volume hobbiest..? I am told that the few shops that will tackle such a project usually send the blocks to Montreal or TO for disassembly, parts washing, ect. since the environmental restrictions has made it impossible to justify the dipping tanks. Similarly very few shop in town have sufficeint volume to justify keeping tradesmen and equipment to turn, regrind and micro polish a crank.... so they go by trucks out of town. Bob C.

Thats funny Bob,
I used to work for Engines Extra but at the Stafford Road shop. We were originally called Bells Corners Machine shop before being bought out by the Benson conglomerate. Sadly the automotive machine shop world with acid hot tanks and washing machines were not very eco friendly and even in my day the writing was on the wall. Sad to hear that Bruce Perley and the boys have lost their jobs. There was a chap used by the roundey roundey race boy types by the name of Larry Slaxton or something similar in Carleton Place. He was pickey and expensive. Robin |

HI Robin
When my 261 was done by the Star Top guys the block was ent to the Stafford road shop for the washing in the huge dishwasher engine washer unit. They re-assembled and machined everyting back at the East end store. I need to contact some of the hot rod guys out in the East end to see what they can recommend..... also will check with the rural tractor shop who regualrly send out Massey F. Dodge and Continental engines for rebuild.... thes old low revs high torquing engines are favorite at plowing matches..... Any body else cares to comment..... Bob
