Default Ford 3 Ton 6 cylinder Military truck ?

Hello again,

Some years back I was offered a wartime Ford 3 tonner which was reported to have had an original FORD 6 Cylinder engine - Did such a beast appear in any numbers and was this a real rarity I let slip through my fingers ?

I still know where it is. Can't remember much at all about it except the engine was out and on the ground and the rest was none too pretty...

Cheers

Phill

Default Ford-6

Phil,

I know what you mean - I always think "Flathead V8" when someone mentions Ford

But, the Ford 2G8T / G8T or "Ford-6" was indeed fitted with a 6 cylinder in-line engine - see http://www.autogallery.org.ru/ford6.htm for details and pictures.

Default 4-cylinders

I just looked up my 1943 Branham's which sees to suggest that there were no 6-cylinder Canadian Fords...however there was also a 4-cylinder commercial series in the US as well as 6-cylinders. 113.5 cu ins!

Default Ford 6

Phill

Quite a few of the Ford sixes ended up in New Zealand . The Ford GTB forward control 4x4 being an example , we in OZ didn't get any of them .

There was even a 1941 staff car with the six fitted , from the outside it looked like the normal V8 , weird .

If you did buy that truck , sourcing parts for the engine would be a nightmare , probably a good thing you didnt get it !

Stick to Landrovers , the corner store always has parts for them .

Mike

Default 1942 Ford Fordor

The US 1942 sedans were Model 2GA Special Six or Deluxe Six apparently. There were no 6-cylinder Canadian Fords evidently.

Default Ford straight six

Well, I have a parts list here, TM-10-1346, dated February 1943, for a bunch of Ford 1.5 ton 4 x 2 stake and platform trucks with USA numbers in three batches, 3144039 to 3148928

Full of illustrations of the straight six and the parts for it. I remember looking at my MH Ford V8 Snogo and realising that the extra holes in the curved front engine mounts were for the longer and thinner straight six.

No info on a 3 ton, but if there was a 1.5 then three is a distinct possibility. I'd guess it would be 4 x 2 though.

Default Model?

My Branham's suggests that the largest 6-cylinder was a 1.5 tonner, 194 inch wheelbase, 1GT-34801 and up.
