Default Workshop tank transporters (NWE)

Gents,

Slightly oddball question for you.

How many transporters (Scammell or Diamond T) would a REME armoured brigade workshop operating in NW Europe have on strength in 1944/45? (Normandy period for preference).

I have a reference that could mean either five or eleven, depending how it's read...

Cheers,
John

Default REME

Not something I profess to know much about, but I'm not sure that an armoured brigade workshop would have transporters in any number, they would be equipped for heavy recovery with a selection of heavy wreckers and gantry trucks with maybe a couple of tractor units pulling drawbar recovery trailers.

Did the RASC do all the transporting?

Pete

Default Transporters

Thanks Mark - that means one of two things.

In the brigade workshop I'm looking at, either I have a missing census number or they returned six vehicles to the vehicle depot and were only issued with five new ones in March 1944.

Back to the records I think...

Cheers,
John
