Default Unknown armoured CMP truck

Hi all

A friend of mine sent me a picture of an armoured type truck with the remains of the Cab13 CMP.

The name of the museum/collection is "Yad Mordechai Museum".

Does anyone have info on this converstion? More pictures of the truck in better shape?

Default Sounds Israeli

Your truck may have been one of the many CMP's modified by the fledgling Israeli Army when the country was just starting out. Many CMP's and bus and anything of use ,were armoured to protect against almost constant sniping and assaults on convoys.

Default How?

My father was in the RAMC in Palestine in 1947-8, and said that when they moved to Egypt the "natives" seized whatever British vehicles they could...it seems that the Brits ensured their Bedford QLs went with them. I have seen a film of the road building to Jerusalem that had # 13 Cab CMPs employed by the Israelis so they must have acquired a large number!

Default Sandwich Car

Hello Jordan,

It is what was known as a Sandwich Car.

The reason for this is in fact apparent from the photo you sent in.

The rear armoured plates are in fact made up of two plates of steel with what I believe was a wooden layer in between.

The Israelis had only limited access to armoured plate in 1947 and 1948.

Many of these trucks were used to take supplies and men from Tel Aviv to the Jewish enclaves in Jerusalem.

Many ambushes were made on these trucks in the pass up past Latrun.

You can see the rear of one of these trucks in the following pictures..

2429.16 | BATTLE OF THE ROADS aka TROOPS IN ACTION PALESTINE (1:42:19:00 - 1:45:25:00)

A post war picture shows one with an open roof, they also had closed roofs, and wirenetting covers on others.

2461.17 | MILITARY DEMONSTRATION IN ISRAEL (1:47:27:00 - 1:55:56:00)

There is information on some of the actions these vehicles took part in on the following sites.

Hi Jordan, here is the C15A truck from the Castleton "Staging Yard", ready for shipment to Israel. It's going to a museum in
Tel Aviv and will have an original Israeli armoured body fitted.

Jordan, watch the movie, "Cast a Giant Shadow" with Kirk Douglas. You'll see a couple of armoured CMPs being driven by Kibbutzniks trying to keep the road open to Jerusalem.
