| Fordson 6 x 2/4 photos wanted

Has anyone got any hi-res photos please of 1932-45 Fordson 6 x4 or 6 x 2 County Commercial Cars 'Sussex' and 'Surrey' conversions please for an article? Is this '44 shot of a CCC 6 x 4 please? Note straight front axle. A search under 'AUSTRALIAN BLUE METAL COMPANY' has revealed a series of shots from 1944 of several tipper 6 x 4 Jailbar Fords. Here is a close-up of the rear bogie: Last edited by David_Hayward (RIP); 19-04-05 at 14:00. |

| Wheels and Tracks

David you will no doubt have the Wheels and Tracks article done on the Surrey and Sussex. I don't have the issue number as it was a victim of the fire, but someone else might. I have a couple of poor quality photos of what I believe may have been County Commercial conversions.

Thanks Nigel, but I do have the issue. Can you possibly send me copies of the pix as I have BB? I wonder what the cast lettering is on the rear axle casing...I have debated whether CCC used Thornton components.

BB? Will put together some photos, how do you want them done? Anything in particular you are looking for? Will see if I can find out the cast lettering on my chassis is. The colour photo is from a scrap yard near Hitchin, but I have other photos of this. It has a different rear axle take off arrangement than mine. Nigel

Can you send either electronic or prints please, best quality? DAVID HAYWARD FAIRVIEW THE DROVE LOWER COMMON ROAD WEST WELLOW ROMSEY HAMPSHIRE SO51 6BT CCC used a 6 x 4 and 6 x 2 arrangement to 1945, and the 6 x 2 I think used a standard Fordson rear axle though the 6 x 4 used a 'Thornton'-style transfer case and Fordson? rear axle. Unipower were the other 6 x 4 people that everyone knows of and they were evidently Marmon-Herrington agents and may also have used Thornton components as well. |
