rear window plates

Hello. Need to fabricate these plates. Does anyone have the thickness of the plate used?

And what kind of profile does the gasket have that lies around the edges? Is it rubber?

Window channel looks something like this same stuff that was used cars 40s-60s for the side windows to slide up and down in.



Measure your channel width and check with automotive glass shop they should be able to set you up with 5 or 6 foot long stock. It comes in different widths so be sure to measure your channel. Things may have changed in recent years, but the window channel in that particular size was not available. The nearest size made it almost impossible to move the metal plates as it was oversize for the opening.

However, with auto restoration sites constantly expanding their products, I hope I am wrong, and someone has started making this size again.

Thanks for the help guys!! I will give a local specialist in vintage auto all kind of rubber etc profiles products a shot.

If you go meassuring Phil...could you write down overall length and height as well?

As Rob points out the channel that has been available makes for a very tight fit squeezing the plates together so tight it is hard to move them. But if you are making new plates maybe you can just make them thinner.

So maybe the best way is get the edge channel first and adjust the plate thickness to work.

I have three different versions of the plates.

Ones on my 1941 C60L are plates about .125" with edge strips top and bottom about 3/8 wide .093 thick pinch welded on the plates.

Ones on my 1942 C60S 16 gauge and edge strips to make up the total ..2187"

Third version I have unknown vehicle 16 gauge with edge folded back in a U shape to make up the .2187

Any picture of the edge strips you are refering to? ( My technical english could have been better )

I presume both sides are simular?
