Anybody have any pictures or drawing that shows how the tubular set-up for strechers are mounted ??
I want to build an ambulance Jeep used by the RCAMC in Normandy.
(Sorry for my bad english...Hope you understand what i wrote !)

Cliff, in my research for pictures , i found some photos of Aussie jeep ambulance and they have a different set-up than the canadian one. I was able to find 5 or 6 document of canadian ambulance jeep from the net. But i'm still looking for more pictures or info, so if you have anything new let me know !!

Hi guys,
I'm working on a modelling project about an ambulance jeep in service with the RCAMC. I was able to get about 4 to 5 photos of canadian ambulance jeep in service.Anybody have some ?? I'm also looking for kind of pics or drawing showing how the stretcher support are mounted on the jeep. Also is there any website or book on the Royal Canadian Army Medical Corps??

I have another question: on the pictures i have of RCAMC jeeps the winshield is often in the "down" position and it looks like it has a cover fitted over it. Is this right or it may be only a tarp put on it?? What colour is that cover?? It looks like they have the redcross sign painted on it . Is this rignt??
I have attached a pics so you can have an idea of what i'm talking about.

It is indeed a standard jeep windshield cover. Note that with the bottom stretcher in place, the windshield would not fold up. As to the sign on the cover, it looks like some sort of air recognition symbol, but doesn't seem like it's a red cross... but it's not a standard on windshield covers, so you're probably free to interpret it as you see fit.

Your modelling project... it isn't 1:1 scale, is it?

I think it would be great to build one of these out of an old jeep wreck...

Concur that the symbol on the windshield cover is not a red cross, but is probably the "star in circle" air recognition symbol seen on windshield covers circa the D-Day timeframe.

Windshield cover would be the same colour as the rest of the jeep canvas...

Those windshield covers were used to eliminate the sun's reflection that would be seen for many miles from the air. Beacons aren't always a good thing.

Uh, Guys?

The air recognition symbol for medical vehicles IS the red cross. My bet is that is exactly what is painted on the windshield cover.

By the by, I was teaching law of armed conflict and international humanitarian law in Africa recently and the new red crystal (http://www.icrc.org/web/eng/siteeng0...7?opendocument) came into effect on 14 Jan 07. Thus adding it to the list of international emblems representing medical establishments and units: red cross, crescent, lion, sun and crystal.
